http://www.826msp.org826 MSP empowers underserved K-12 students to think creatively, write effectively, and succeed academically alongside a community of caring volunteers. We offer free in-school and out-of-school writing, tutoring, and publishing programs to over 2500 young authors a year.
Education and Research
826 MSP is seeking candidates with a passion for the mission and the following skills and experience:
-Strong community relationships and a willingness to be an ambassador to build public awareness and support for the organization.
-Fundraising strategy and implementation experience to help the Board’s Development Committee establish effective funding sources and relationships.
-Financial expertise to support the organization develop systems and processes to support decision-making.
-Education and programming experience to support with evaluation and strengthening outcomes.
-Willingness and experience in serving in board leadership positions (officers and chairs).
-Connections to the neighborhoods we work in (Seward, Cedar-Riverside, Philips) and to Minneapolis Public Schools.
All board members are expected to give a meaningful financial gift to 826 MSP each year. Additionally, the board as a whole commits to raising 15% of the annual budget each year.
The 826 MSP Board and committees are working groups with the following basic requirements for its members:
-Board member participation should be in-person with a maximum of two total absences annually (committee and board meetings). Calling into meetings is an option, but in-person attendance is preferred.
-Enthusiasm and dedication regarding 826 MSP’s mission
-Professional or leadership experience including the following areas: marketing, fundraising, education, youth development, non-profit management and operations, legal affairs, advocacy, research/evaluation, finance, HR, or governance
-Act as an ambassador of 826 MSP as a public representative of the organization and its mission
-Participate in at least one Board committee (Governance, Development, Finance, or Ad Hoc)
-Engage in fundraising activities, to include activities like event planning, donor cultivation, building individual donor base
-Complete regular review of organization’s financial documents and provide input on long-term financial growth
-Board: Offer guidance to Executive Director and evaluate Executive Director’s performance annually
-Attendance at a program or event each year to directly engage in 826 MSP’s mission
-Willingness to commit to a two-year term
